Q: When does the 2011 BMW 5 Series start selling?
When does the 2011 BMW 5 Series start selling in the USA?

A: They have been in production and up For Sale for the past 2 months in the USA. The 2011 535i and 550i where the only ones available for purchase 2 months ago, the 2011 528i sedan just hit dealers about 1 week ago. The 2011 BMW 528i sedan is cheaper then its previous predecessor, the starting price for the entry class 2011 BMW 528i is listed to sell at $44,550 with a National MSRP $45,975 while its 2010 predecessor priced at $45,800 at an MSRP of $47,225. The 2011 BMW 528i has 240 HP which is 10 more HP then its previous predecessor with 230 HP. The 2011 BMW 5 series competes head to head with the 2011 Infiniti M-class, Audi A6, Mercedes E-class and the Lexus GS.

(Starting prices for each 2011 5 series Trim, MSRP includes “H&D” fee aswell as the “Gas Guzzler Tax fee”)
2011 BMW 528i – $44,550……………MSRP $45,975
2011 BMW 535i – $49,600……………MSRP $51,025
2011 BMW 550i – $59,700……………MSRP $60,575

This link will take you directly to the 2011 BMW 5 series Page so you can take a look. Play around a bit and build your own 5 series customized to your liking.

Q: 2011 BMW 5 Series or Mercedez-Benz E350?
My mom is buying a new car because her “reliable” 2007 Lexus ES is completely done. She wants a really nice car and is very interested in European models. I personally have heard great things about the Cadillac CTS-V but she wants something more exotic. I don’t think she’d like the Jaguar, new Infiniti M, or the Audi A6. So would you recommend the Mercedez-Benz over the new 2011 5 series (which “looks” awesome btw) or do you think a brand new BMW design has to be the clear winner here because of the fact that 1) BMW offers free service for years and 2) Mercedez-Benz’s are made up of many Ford parts?

Which car is better and more reliable in your opinion? Which won’t “break down” like her 2007 ES350 did in a disgusting fashion?

A: I hear great things about the new E-Class. I personally like the Mercedes Line better. The Mercedes cars don’t all look the same as each other unlike the BMW line. I have owned 2 Mercedes-Benz vehicles before and they have been very reliable. The E-Class looks great too. I think the E-Class is also less expensive. I would personally go for the benz

Q: Is the 2011 BMW 5-series as amazing of a car as everyone says?
My mom wants to buy the 535i but it’s too expensive. She is driving a 2007 Lexus ES350 which has 272 hp. The BMW 528i has 240 hp at 6600 RPM. Will the 2011 BMW 528i be more powerful and handle better than my mom’s 2007 Lexus ES350 even though it has lower horsepower?

Is the BMW 5 series, redesigned for 2011, really the “It” car that everyone seems to think it is? They have an amazing 4 year/50000 miles maintenance plan I’m told. I also feel BMW’s are better than Mercedez-Benz’s, but should my mom consider the Audi A6 or the new Infiniti M, Cadillac CTS, or Jaguar? My mom really prides herself on driving nice cars, and the Lexus basically failed her with many maintenance problems.

Should the BMW be #1 on her list? Is it “that” good?

A: Yes it is awesome and I LOVE it but……

The Cadillac CTS V had 304 hp and good for going 140mph in total comfort while smoking most other cars on the road.

Buy it.

Q: is the 2011 bmw 5 series sedan steering is like an audiand is it light as audi steering?
this bmw use electric power steering, is it same with latest audi a4 steering????

A: BMW steering is typically weighted to povide better road feel. On the current (outgoing) 5 steering the steering is very tight and weighted, I expect the new sedan to be similar but maybe a little lighter. i drove the GT and the steering seems typical BMW, nice and tight and weighted properly.

But, it’s a bigger car than the a4, the steering will be different for both cars.

Q: When will the 2011 BMW 5-series be released?
… for test drive and purchase? Anyone know?

A: According to the BMWNA Press Release, the Fall of 2010.

Q: What do you think of the new 2011 BMW 5 series?
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/AllBMWs/FutureVehicles/20115SeriesSedan/ImageGallery.aspx

A: :::::::Be ready or at least in a mood to read =)::::::::
I can only praise BMW for redesigning the 5 series to meet the standards and expectations consumers demand for a vehicle of our generation. The boxy yet still luxurious current design is outdated when compared to the the styling Q’s in the current generation X6, 7 series, X5 etc etc. Overall I think the 2011 BMW 5series was will executed but nothing was done to captivate or stand out that the previous generation couldn’t offer excluding the fact that the 2011 5 series will now come equipped with an optional “park assist” feature like the Lexus LS flagship sedan has. I think the 2011 5-series is better looking then the current 5 series. Even though the 5 series is expected to come out into production real soon, new Luxury sedans will also await to compete against the 2011 BMW 5-series such as the entirely redesigned 2011 Infiniti M37/M56. Personally if I was given the choice between the 2011 BMW 5-series and the 2011 Infiniti M37 I would take the M37 with out a doubt. I feel Infiniti has stepped up their game, definitely out beating and stealing Lexus’s title as the #1 Japanese luxury vehicle in the US. Infiniti has proved itself a worthy rival to the BMW, Mercedes and Audi. Considering the fact that both vehicles will come into production sometime in the year 2010 to be introduced as a 2011 model, pricing will be vastly different. Ironically Infiniti has always been praised for good value in terms of price when compared to the Lexus GS, BMW 5 series and Mercedes E class but as of 2011 Infiniti will hold the title as one of the most expensive Mid-sized conventional Luxury sedans which will price at a Base figure of $51,000 which is a major leap for its already current base price of $45,500. The current BMW 5 series also prices at $45,500 but no word yet on pricing for the 2011 Model. No one expected the 2011 Infiniti M37/56 to over price the already base sticker price of the popular Mercedes E class sedan starting at $48,000. The BMW 5 series and the Infiniti M37/56 will surely be interesting to watch. Its a very competitive market.

Q: new bmw 5 series (2011 shape) or new merc e class…. which would you buy?
both are nice..but which one has the OOMPH factor. which one turns heads? which one is classier and looks more luxurious? which would you rather drive daily?

A: I’d get the new BMW 5 Series (2011 shape). It just drives smoothly, but if you want more in-car features, then Merc E class is for you.

Q: Do you think its worth Buying a 2011 Infiniti M37 sedan, or wait for the 2011 BMW 528i Sedan?
The 2011 BMW 528i sedan doesnt go on sale till June, would you wait till June to buy one or would you rather take the 2011 Infiniti M37 sedan, both start at similar price-points. Which one would be a better car? PICS below:

http://www.egmcartech.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/2011_bmw_5_series_images_038.jpg

A: I absolutely love the M37 and think it is a better vehicle, overall, than the BMW 5 series.
The M is a new body, but the same, reliable engine found in the G37.

The M has a 3.7L, 330HP engine vs. the BMW 2.8L, 240 HP engine….for the same price.

To me it is a no-brainer, but I am partial to Infiniti.

Q: Damn! don’t you think the new 2011 BMW 5 is ugly?
man… that’s not a 5 series, that is more like an extended 3 series, I wish the E60 5 series (2003-2010) will go on, sad ((((
Antonious: yep, it is a matter of taste

Tigerr: agreed but it completely change the look of the previous successful e60

Leo: In my country, one M6 is equal to two 523i

geebs: yea, i cant afford such a car at my age , but my father is a car sales man, so i have driven all those 3-7 series, so sad that you cant afford it for life :’(

A: While the current (outgoing) 5 has been a strong seller, the new 5 will delivery even more. More traditional design (striking), a much more luxurious interior, and better handling will lure back the the defectors from audi and benz who thought the 5 was dated.

I still love the old design, but i’m sure i’ll come to love the new one even more.

Q: Survey: Infiniti, Mercedes or BMW?
( Try to determine which car you would most likley buy?)
Money not being a factor which of these 3 luxury sedans would you choose. “Neither” is not an answer. (Pics included) All these cars have a starting MSRP of $60,000

2011 Infiniti M56
2010 Mercedes E550
http://www.tirekick.com/TK09/images/10MBenz-E-sedan-F.jpg
Tom: Not trying to be biased here but Ive actually heard the BMW 5 series has the biggest depreciation value in the mid-sized sedan market and the the Infiniti M maintians its fair market value as well as the mercedes E-class. The 550i is very impressive with 400 HP but the Infiniti does just as well with 420 HP either way all sedans are nice

A: The infiniti is by far the best out of the 3. Not only is it the superior luxury car in its class, but its a great car to have based on safety, new technologies, and keeping its value. it sounds fantastic on the road. it quickly goes from your favorite luxury car to your favorite sports car in a heartbeat. the added luxury items like their new iDrive key which adjusts to the settings you had on the vehicle, while another key could adjust to totally different settings. Also, the detail in the dashboard and interior door panels gives the car a new flare. all the new infinitis have been totally redesigned inside and out and the new M56 is a great example. its the clear winner and i’d buy one over a BMW or Mercedes anytime. i mean, the M56 just looks like a work of art. its beautiful inside and out. i mean, other manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes may have beautiful exteriors, but the interior is so bland and lacks detail. even the smallest ones make a huge difference.

Q: When is leasing a new car a good idea? When is it a bad idea?
My mom wants to trade in her 2007 Lexus ES350 and put the money down for a 3-year lease on a new 2011 BMW 5 series? Is this a good idea or should she just buy it and try to get the best financing rate she can get? How does the fact that BMW’s residual value is supposedly pretty strong play into my mom’s decision on leasing vs. buying?

A: leasing is an improper word… it should be called long term renting…

when you lease you never own the car…so you do everything a person who buys a car does..except in three years you either turn the car in, and have nothing, or buy the car all over again….

Leasing is only good for businesses, or if you are going from new york to la for three years, and won’t need the car after that….

Q: Which European car is the best?
The new mercedes e class or the 2011 bmw 5 series

A: I’d go with the new E-class. MB’s has always been know for rock solid quality construction and reliability. This started slipping a little starting in the early 90’s and took a nose dive during the marriage between Chrysler and MB. Finally with the divorce between the two, MB is returning to the heydays of solid construction and reliability. The new E-class has been extremely well received by the automotive press and has won numerous rave reviews for returning to it’s true Mercedes roots. I like both BMW and Mercedes, but lean more towards Mercedes because I own two MB’s, a 1988 & 1989 300SE (W126) with about 180,000 miles each. I absolutely love these cars due to their bank vault solid build, reliability, comfort, and fairlty inexpensive to maintain.

The new E-Class and E-class Coupe were awarded “best-looking car in the world” by AUTOBILD Magazine. 100,000 readers of AUTOBILD voted the E-Class Coupé as the best looking in the “Coupé and Cabriolet” category, as well as electing the Saloon as the overall winner among all new models.

Q: Between Both of these two Luxury cars which one would take?
Which 2011 Luxury sedan would you take? Why?

For some who may know, in 2011 many redesigned vehicles will come out to production to introduce the new generation line-up vehicles.

If you had to choose between the all new 2011 Infiniti M37-M56 and the 2011 BMW 5 series which vehicle would you choose? (between these two only) Pics are below:

I can understand where some of you are coming from. I like both vehicles. Although exterior styling can be appreciated in a BMW more then an Infiniti, I would have to say that Infiniti’s Interior’s are the best quality compared to any other luxury vehicle. Infiniti’s interior’s are stunning and flawless while BMW’s exterior styling are captivating. The 2011 M37 is expected to price at $52,000 which will certainly set the price range apart from a BMW 5 series attracting buyers with the luxury of being able to buy a half a $100,000 vehicle, so yes i would consider an Infiniti a luxury vehicle. Although come to think of it the car cost $7,000 more then its predecessor which awkwardly makes it the most expensive sedan of its competitors such as the 5 series, Mercedes E class, Audi A6, Lexus Gs. I still cant see why its so over priced? Beautiful car never the less

A: Infiniti blows away the BMW.

Thank you for playing.

Q: Which Mid-sized Luxury sedan would you buy?
Why would you choose one over the other? The only options are the following cars, no other recommendations please. =) Pics Included

A: The 5-Series is the best performing and handling and will retain its value FAR better than the other two. Toyota has just announced they’re going to barely have made a profit this year because of all of the problems reported with their vehicles and the amounts of rebates they’ve had to give to keep any sales coming in at all. The most popular aspect of a Lexus today are the number of people staying away from them.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.

Q: Car Battle: Crossover: BMW vs Acura?
BMW X6 or Acura ZDX (or BMW 5 series Gran Turisimo
consider all options and just give me your opinion

Never Seen Either of these cars:

http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/vehicles/2011/x6/default.aspx

http://www.acura.com/modellanding.aspx?model=zdx

A: Well in this segment all competitors consist Of the BMW X6-50i, Infiniti FX50, Porsche Cayenne S, which all have a starting MSRP of $60,000 and up while the Acura ZDX starts at an MSRP of $45,000 only offering one source of output power in terms of the engine, the ZDX only escalates in pricing when packages and options are added, the ZDX does not have a series of engines to choose from like BMW, Infiniti or Porsche, you pretty much get 300 HP at whatever MSRP you end up walking away with the ZDX. The Infiniti, BMW, and Porsche all have lower price tags aswell if you choose to go for the basic entry class model like the Bmw X6-35i, the Infiniti FX35 or the Porsche Cayenne base which all have a starting MSRP of $45,000 and up. Personally my two favorite Luxury Sport utility crossovers in this segment are the 2010 BMW X6 and the 2010 Infiniti FX50, the Porsche Cayenne was just recently redesigned and I have to say it looks 100 XX (times) better then its predecessor from last year. Porsche has really upgraded the exterior and interior appeal, it now lives up to Porsches standards in my book. The ZDX in terms power is the slowest contender in this segement. The ZDX produces 300 HP and unfortunatly they do not offer a more powerful engine, so basically “what you see is what you get.” Acura as a player in the luxury auto industry has fallen behind year by year, this does not mean its is a bad car but they have been looked down upon rather then glorified for their work these past generations. Many criticize Acura for not having a luxury sports coupe this late into the decade, they dont offer a convertible like its Rivals and the power each vehicle inherits generartion after generation doesnt really budge by much for the money you are paying in an Acura. Many people who cross shop in this segment from Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Infiniti & Lexus never seem to end up settling for an Acura….it mostly starts from Acura and work your way up for those who are just beggining to test the waters with luxury entry class vehicles, it would make sense to start through Acura as they offer you bargian prices in this segment despite the standards equipped in each of their vehicles. But then again “to each his own”. The ZDX is a sensible alternative to the X6, FX and Porsche Cayenne if your looking for something a bit more economical nevertheless equally as luxurious in thier own different ways. If your looking for something that will give you “more bang for your buck” your best bet is the 2010 Infiniti FX35 which outputs 303 HP or 390 Hp for the FX50. The FX35 has an MSRP of $43,715 which undercuts the ZDX by a couple hundred dollars, standard features include Bi-xenon Headlights, Rear view Camera, 11 speaker Bose sound system, Intelligent key and a 2 GB Music Box in all FX35 base models. If I had to choose between your choices of the ZDX, X6 or 5 series Grand turismo I would take the BMW X6 with my eyes closed.

Q: How good of an engine comes in the bmw 5 series?
I’ve been looking into the lexus ls 400s and the bmw 5 series years ranging 90-95. Ive heard great things about the lexus engine being bulletproof but can the bmw six cylinder say the same? How mileage can i put on the car without having to worry about major issues?

A: Well all of BMW’s engines are great. Here are the ones they offer for the 5-series.

3.0-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline 230-horsepower 6-cylinder engine with composite magnesium/aluminum engine block, Valvetronic, and Double-VANOS steplessly variable valve timing

3.0-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline turbocharged 300-horsepower 6-cylinder engine with twin-turbo technology, piezo direct injection, and Double-VANOS steplessly variable valve timing

4.8-liter, 360-horsepower 32-valve V-8 engine with 4 overhead camshafts, aluminum engine block and cylinder heads, Valvetronic system, 2-stage air intake manifold, and Double-VANOS steplessly variable valve timing

They are all great engines. Any of them would be good if properly maintained for 200,000 miles. Good luck and make sure you get one that hasn’t been beat too hard and has been properly maintained.

Q: What is the difference between a BMW 3 and 5 series?
I’m looking specifically for info on maintenance required for each. Does series 5 BMW’s require more maintenance than series 3?

A: This a rather open question as you have not mentioned any years or what generation BMWs you are looking at.

In general, the difference between the 3 and 5 series is simply size. They have different powertrains as well (with some overlapping engines). So basically, reliability is the same for both models. For more specific reliability data, go to msnauto.com and checkout the reliability rankings. Hope that helps.

Q: How much would a certified pre-owned BMW 5 series cost to lease or finance?
I have recently acquired a steady cash flow and I would like to either lease or finance a 2006 or 2007 5 series.

I would like to know how much people usually pay a month for one.

Thanks for the help!

A: Not a bad idea, one of the best cars that they make. . .

The true rating though for you payment is all based on your credit score I bought an E39 in 2006 and I pay $540 a month, my friend also bought an E39 and pays $700 a month. . .

but to answer your question anywhere between this area is reasonable. .. But I have heard of people paying as much as $800-$900 brand new

Q: Is a BMW 5 Series the right car for my 17 year old?
I’m looking to buy my 17 year old (soon to be) a nice car, please none of the “are you crazy” or “you have too much money”. It has to be a nice car, he likes the BMW 5 series, would it be a good car for him? Any other suggestions? Must be BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Lexus, Porsche, Audi or any other quality makes.
I think I already said about the “spoiling” and the “money business”. I’m just on to ask about the car, he’s getting a nice car. END OF. I don’t know whether it’s jealous with you people, or what.

A: I’ll try a reply without the preaching!
Yes, a BMW 5 series is a fantastic car – beautifully made, reliable, even surprisingly economical for such a large car, they’re also safe & secure.
Have it serviced at an independant specialist – BMWs require very little maintenance to stay on top form, and the mechanicals are surprisingly simple. A BMW dealer will absolutely rob you for servicing.
As for other answers, suggestions such as Ford & Mercedes are a joke – The Mondeo in particular has serious reliability & economy problems, and to suggest it’s in the same league as a BMW is ridiculous to anyone that’s ever owned both – me included; Merc just don’t have the build quality & reliability they used to enjoy.

Q: Any idea when the BMW 5 series is going to have a facelift? Will it be the 2007 model?
I have just ordered a 2007 535d. I don’t want to find that, a month after I take delivery, the 5 Series range is given a facelift.

A: if i got it right from an article in the german “autobild”, then there will no bigger + irritating facelift before the completely new model arrives in 2009, which is shown in my link

Q: How do you remove a 2004 Bmw 5 series front head rest?
I need help removing a 2004 bmw 5 series front headrest plz hlep me plz include pictures and description on how to remove it thx for reading this question and help bye

A: Pull up on it, HARD. It can sometimes be hard to get off but keep pulling.

Q: How do I get a new key for a 2000 BMW 5 series?
I’ve lost all the keys of my car as well as title. I need a new key for my BMW 5 series (2000). What proof of ownership will I need to show in the dealership? Will they give me a key without first seeing the car or do they need the car? Is there any other place becides dealership where I can make BMW key? Thank you .

A: You will have to get a key from the dealer. If you do not have a business relationship with them, they should require you to prove you own the car. If you have had them work on the car previously, they probably would only require a driver’s license to verify you are the person who there records say owns the car.
If they do not know you or the car, they should require proof of ownership which would nornally be the title. If you have lost your title you need to get that replaced anyway.

Q: What is the average cost of maintenance on the BMW E34 5-series?
I’m wondering roughly how much parts cost for a early or mid-90’s BMW E34 5-series such as the 525i. How much do parts cost compared to other manufacturers? If you own an E34, do you find that maintenance is comparable to other brands?
Thanks in advance!

A: nice drivers, and decently (but not outstanding) dependable…but be forewarned cost of routine servicing is at the top of the scale (generally 1.5 to 2X american or japanese product).
replacement parts are more expensive, by a wide margin, than you might expect to pay for other brands.
if you are on a budget -unless you have the skills and toolsets (special) required to do some of your own servicing and general repairs/replacements, i would seriously look at a much newer bmw
or consider for the same money as the 525i, a later model lexus….which rank much higher on dependability scales than german manufactures (the germans consistently score relatively low on dependability) and are a notch lower for costof maintenance and repair.

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/07/lexus…

Q: What’s the cheapest place I can buy a BMW z4 or 5 series?
I want to buy either a BMW z4 or a 5 series (2006-2007), so I’m trying to find the best offer out there.

A: the best place and I mean you will not find a wider selection for less money is www.cars.com, bought 3 cars through there, 2 of them bmw.

You can try all the rest and compare and you will see what I mean.

Q: How many inches is the rear lip on these wheels for a BMW 5 Series.?
The wheels are staggered front(20×8.5) and rear(20×10) the offset is 18mm and bolt pattern is 5.120. They will go on my (E39) 5 series BMW. Can you determine how many inches the rear lip is going to be or is more info needed?

A: pretty wide wheels, you’d be lucky if you rolled the fender wells and the the wheels would tuck in (and of course got stiffer coil/springs to compensate)

better option would be to have the fenders flared out by a body shop

where’s you get the rims, off of a M5?

Q: I am thinking of buying a new BMW 5 series but i am confused for which to buy?
I am thinking of buying a new BMW 5 series but i am confused for which to buy the options are 520 d (diesel) average is 15.7 and 525 i (petrol) average is 10.1.
Have heard that 525 have got more features.don’t know about it much

Please need your help urgently
Price is not a concern i want to concentrate more on performance and the comparison of this 2 variants from BMW
520d or 525i which is preferable ?

A: I dont understand your question sorry. try to explain better

Q: I want to buy a 5-series BMW stickshift. Which would be the best ever from 1990 onwards?
I want a 5 series BMW stick shift preferably V6 and not V8. Which would be the best year of such a Beemer from the 1990s till date?
I mean in terms of reliability and least breakdowns..I know each car is different and one size does not fit all but just a general consensus

A: Its simple the newer the BMW model the more the costs and catastrophic money sucking breakdowns they have. The best of the bunch is the 89 and on E34 535i so your 1990 limit is meet. Still has the great 3.5 motor BUT its the weakest of the bunch in terms of durability and reliability. Good thing you want to go with a stick since the automatics are plagued with very early failure. Also you can get a used trans out of a 87 or 88 E28 535i and and some 3 series if you know what your doing. If I only had a 89 535i to drive I would right away re route the heater hoses to get coolant flow going thru the back of the cylinder head asap. BUT with all BMWs from around that time up to today BMWs are plagued with numerous electrical problems with failing units and cracked solder joints. And many more mechanical problems.

Q: Im trying to install a aftermarket radio in a 2000 Bmw 5 series ?
Im trying to install a aftermarket stereo in my 2000 bmw 5 series how does it work do i need any parts from the original stereo.

A: Contact the people at Crutchfield Electronics. They can tell you what connectors, parts and tools you need. They will also sell them to you at reasonable prices.

Q: What are the differences b/w 3 series and 5 series bmw?
Looking into them to buy a car, but I want to know if it’s worth the extra money to get a 5 series over a 3 series… are there any big differences or do they just add a few features to sell the car at a higher price? Thanks!

A: Lol your question has already been asked several times as you can see:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=difference+between+bmw+3+series+5+series&aq=0m&aqi=g-m2&aql=&oq=3+series+5+ser&gs_rfai=

But here’s a helpful answer:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061220134521AALSNfZ

Hope I could help! (PS. Generally, one’s more luxurious and bigger than the other as well as some MPG and engine pluses I think).

Help answer my car question please?

Q: What is the correct tyre pressures for Bridgestone Potenza 225/50R17 in psi on a BMW 5 series?
Hi, I have a used BMW 5 series which has Bridgestone Potenza 225/50R17 tyres (run flats) all round. Can someone tell me the correct tyre pressures in PSI for front and rear tyres…Thank You.
3 answers and 3 different answers. Come on guys give me an answer that’s consistant….

A: Following the recommendations posted in the driver’s door pillar is the right procedure. But the low tire pressure in front is disconcerting to some drivers.
If you can stand a tiny little bit of roughness in riding comfort, then you can increase the front tire pressures to 36 or 38 psi. You would hardly notice the roughness but could possibly gain a little more mileage due to less rolling friction.
If you are a stickler for rules then just stay with manufacturer’s recommendations.

If you are a stickler for rules then just stay with manufacturer’s recommendations.

Q: Why are the bmw 5 series cheaper than the 3 series?
I’ve been looking at 3 series bmw’s around the 1996-2000 models and you can get them for around 9-10 grand with about 150km on them. But I’ve noticed that you can get a more luxurious bigger engine 5 series for around the same price or cheaper. Is there more problems with the older 5 series? or do people just prefer the 3 series? cheers

A: Who ever is selling you a 1996-2000 BMW 3-series for $9,000- $10,000 is royally ripping you off. The current national MSRP pricing for a used 1996-2000 3 series model is like $5,000 -$7,000 depending on the condition. The 2002-2005 BMW 3 series are the ones selling for $9,500-$12,500. The 5 series is known to have a very poor depreciation value, you can get a 2004-2005 BMW 5 series for as low as $14,500-$17,000 nowadays. The 5 series is already on its 6th generation of the sedan, indicating the depreciation value would go down for an old 1996- 2001 BMW 5 series. The 1997-2003 BMW 5-series is the 4th the generation of the sedan until the new one debuted in 2004 and ended in 2010 of this year, the current and Newly redesigned 2011 5-series hit the streets about 2 months ago and is selling for National MSRP of $44,550 which undercuts its previous 2010 Predecessor by $2,000, this is clearly a sign. But then again I just noticed you said “cheers” so I’m starting to assume you meant €9K-€10K Euros, not dollars??? lol

Q: What do you think of the new BMW 5 series (pictures released about a month ago)?
Hi, there is a new style coming out in March this year (2010) – what do you think of the new style of the new BMW 5 series? It’s coded the F10 and you can see it on the BMW website. Not sure myself, even though I am a keen BMW enthusiast.

A: never have another beema over rated

Q: Does the BMW 5 Series 2005-2006 has a rear camera for parking ?
I want to know if a BMw 5 series 2005-2006 has a camera while parking and those sensors of driving and stuff

A: Hi Dany,

There is no rear camera available at all for that age of 5 series model.
There is however PDC (Park Distance Control) which has the sensors in the bumper(s) which give an audio warning when parking close to objects. On some models you also get a graphic display on the i drive showing the car and any nearby obstacles.

Hope that helps, Pyth

Q: My BMW 5 series Audio was fulty but I search locally without success can some noe help?
My car is BMW 523 ( type 39 ) 5 series and the audio was design by Philip with loader ( cd 6 chenger ), its BUSINESS type NOT reversed type.

A: I don’t where you are.

You can search eBay and www.car-parts.com

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beN1_AxWYnU

Q: Would you eat goat feces for a bmw 5 series?
My dad bet me to eat a plate of goat feces for a bmw 5 series. He will purchase the car first and put the keys in my hand while i eat. Would you do what I am going to do?

A: Seeing as the consumption of those feces will most likely give you an incurable condition and lead to a short life…

Is a car worth dying for?

Buy it.

Q: the E class or the NEW 2011 5 series?
which do you think classier…more luxurious…and BALLIN..which would make someone go OOOH?

please do explain why you made your choice..thanks! color choice would help

A: E Class. Mercedes is MUCH better then BMW.

Q: When will the 2011 BMW 5-series be released?
… for test drive and purchase? Anyone know?

A: According to the BMWNA Press Release, the Fall of 2010.

Q: Damn! don’t you think the new 2011 BMW 5 is ugly?
man… that’s not a 5 series, that is more like an extended 3 series, I wish the E60 5 series (2003-2010) will go on, sad ((((
Antonious: yep, it is a matter of taste

PICS below:

(2011 Infiniti M37) $46,250

http://www.egmcartech.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/2011_bmw_5_series_images_038.jpg

PICS below:

Q: Difference bettween 4high lock and 4 high free on 2010 4runner?
What’s the difference bettween four high lock and four high free mode on the 2010 4runner?

A: Four High Lock would be the four wheel drive selection that has a higher gear ratio for regular driving, but locks the differentials for maximum grip. Four High Free would be the same only, the differentials are open, which means power goes only to the wheels that offer the least resistance. However, locking the differential and just driving around will be very hard on the differentials and will just wear it out pretty fast, so you’ll only want to use that when you really need it.

Q: What do you think of the new Toyota 2010 4Runner?
This suv looks badass, and from the reviews, it does blow peoples minds.
Also, do you think the new 2012 Tacoma will have a similar look?

A: Toyota- Moving forward, Even if you don’t want to.

Terrible, its a Japanese car, and Japanese cars suck!

Q: Is there any car dealer in Malaysia that sell Toyota 4Runner 2010?
Hi, would like to ask is there any car dealer that sell/import the new Toyota 4Runner Trail version? Does the car allowed to be imported in Malaysia? Thanks.

A: Well, firstly, would you like a US spec-4Runner, or a Japan spec, which is practically sold in other parts of the world as the Toyota Hilux Surf? In Malaysia, though, the Toyota Fortuner would work as a great alternative.

Q: Does a 2010 4runner have a timing belt or a timing chain?
Read title.

A: Which motor do you have, the V8 has a belt and the V6 has a chain.

No the 4Runner is not affected by any recall.

Q: Would it be feasible/practical to put either 31″ or 33″ all-terrain tires on a new 2010 Toyota 4runner?
So I see that the new 4runner has a “trail” edition, but the tires on it look wimpy. How well would this truck accommodate a 33″ tire, and would the dealership install them?

A: The Trail Edition is sick.

Of course the “All-Terrain” Tires you are talking about would be a waste of money because they would offer so little off-road performance. If you really want to get some good tires. Get some KM2 BFG Mud Terrains. They will slap some All Terrains around like a little kid.

I doubt 33’s will fit. 32’s maybe. 31’s for sure. The dealer will install them, of course it’s gonna cost you. I would go to a tire place instead. Save yourself a few bucks.

Q: where can i find splash guards for 2010 4runner limited? 4×4?
the dealer dont make it.
where can i find it?

A: Try www.weathertech.com..They have all the high quality stuff for your truck…Splash gaurds, interior mats the works!!!

Q: 2010 4runner limited floor mats?
Does anybody know where to get some floor mats for the 2010 4runner limited?
Is there any pictures of what it looks like when it’s installed.

A: The dealer.

They will be custom made to exactly fit your floor plan. Plus you can get Rubber All Weather mats or Logo cloth Mats.

Q: 2010 4runner pricing?
I want to buy a 2010 SR5 4runner 4×2 V6. I want to know what is the lowest Out-The-Door price I can get this vehicle for. Please help and thank you!

A: 31167 plus tax

Q: When do you think the 2010 4runner is gonna go on sale and 0% APR?

A: soon but keep in mind like one percent of the population qualify for it its a marketing gimmick but truthfully you couldn’t give me this foreign can car. american right toyota go back to wherever it came from

Q: Tires for 2010 4runner SR5.?
The factory tire size on the 2010 Toyota 4runner SR5 is P265/70 R17 and I am wondering if the BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A will fit. They make a size LT265/70 R17 and I see the only difference in the sizes are the first letters in the tire size. I have no idea what they mean. I also noticed that the BF Goodrich tire have two of the same sizes. LT265/70 R17/C and LT 265/70 R17/E. Please help clear this up for me. Thanks for the help.

A: Yeah it will work. The P stands for passenger and the LT means light truck. The LT has a more aggressive tread pattern. The C and E stand for load range. The C means 6 ply and runs 50 psi and E means 10 ply and can run 80 psi. I would go with the C. Check out these links. The first one should explain everything, but just wanted to add the second link to maybe help you see what they mean about aspect ratio.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_size
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_sizing
Hope that helps you!!!

Q: anyone know of a dealership that has a 2010 toyota 4runner with a 3rd row seat in stock?

A: Would help if you stated where you live so that others and I can check the local inventory.

Q: 2010 Toyota 4Runner? Would it be a good car for me?
I would like a 3rd row seat and I need 4WD or AWD. I am a single mom with 3 children. What do you think? do you have any other suggestions also?

A: yes perfect car—my aunt has one in fact the 2003 one and she has had no problems. reliable car really.

Q: 2010 Toyota 4Runner Rear End Spin-out Video?
Does anyone have a link to the video of the 2010 Toyota 4Runner spinning out over and over again on the news this morning? It showed that once the driver let off the accelerator during a turn, the rear end would just let go and spin around.

Thanks Everyone!

A: Actually that was a LEXUS G460 SUV. And just about any rear wheel drive top heavy vehicle will do the same thing if you push it too hard into a corner.

That video is no surprise to anyone that has explored the handling limitations of an SUV. In a severe cornering scenario the front end understeers and digs into the pavement causing the lighter loaded rear end to swing around. Simple physics, really. So now Toyota is going to take even more flak because they didn’t design an off road vehicle to be a race car. Only in America can people be so naive as to believe that a 4×4 vehicle has the same handling dynamics as a car.

This is the VIDEO;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw754vHd9_Y

Q: 2010 Toyota 4Runner VS. 2010 GMC Acadia?
2010 Toyota 4Runner VS. 2010 GMC Acadia

A: Both are great cars you test drive them both.
the 4runner are great offroaders but are not as comfortable as the arcadia.
the 4runner has rugged tires which is rough on streets. the arcadia won’t have the re-sale value as the toyota but its pretty durable.
My pick is the Toyota 4Runner

Q: 2002 Toyota 4runner, 2003 Lexus ES300, or 2010 Toyota Camry?
Which one would you drive and why?

A: The 2010 Camry, Lexus is nice but its 7 years old, the 4Runner even older. Seven years of wear and tear is fairly significant.

Q: I love my 95 4runner but need to upgrade has anyone gone from a 4runner to highlander, or other suggestions?
My 95 4runner is in great shape, need slightly bigger vehicle, Thinking of new 4runner. Worried about gas prices, and like the third row seating. But after driving a 4runner for 13 years not sure I want anything else, but other vehicle have been suggested. Is it hard to convert to a different vehicle, after driving a 4runner.

A: highlanders are better on gas. if you still want an SUV, you can get the rav4, or even the highlander hybrid if you can afford it. or you can get the sienna.

Q: What would make my 1986 4runner steam up the cabin with coolant?
My 1986 4runner has suddenly started steaming up my cabin. It is so bad that I cannot see out the windows when I am driving. Can anyone provide answers as to what would cause this?

A: Your heater-core is shot.

Q: What engines will fit a 1995 Toyota 4runner to give me more horse power?
I have a 1995 toyota 4runner. I blew the head gasket and for the price to replace the head gasket I found for a little more money I can put in a new engine. I know I’m going to need a new transmission to suit a different engine as well as a new rearend. What 3 liter engines are out there that would make a suitable swap and give me more horse power?

A: I will need all of the numbers off the plate on the firewall to give you the correct advice as to how to fit the engine as the 1UZ-FE is the one to fit. Keeps it all Toyota, sounds nice, goes like you would not believe and uses less gas that the V6

Q: How can i boost a 91 toyota 4runner and make it lighter?
So my cousin has a toyota 4runner a 97 at that it has no power even in 4 wheel drive what mods can i do or something i work on cars i just dont know much about toyotas someone give me some hints if you have any plese also i want to know if there is a way to make it lighter thanks.

A: I was going to ask if it’s a 91 or 97. But it doesn’t matter.

A 4Runner is not a sports car. It has a lot of torque for pulling, but not for driving fast.

If you want something that drives fast, get a Sports car not an SUV.

Q: What is a reasonable price for these repairs on a 92 Toyota 4Runner?
We live in the Houston Texas are if that matters and the 4Runner is a 6cyl 4wheel drive.

I took my sons car to get inspected and it failed. The inspection place said I needed to get the following:
Catalytic converter
EGR Valve
Tail Pipe

Also would this be something I would get done at a muffler type shop?

A: A lot depends on where you take it …the dealership being the most expensive. But going to the cheapest shop in town may be false economy if they do a lousy job …..Find a *GOOD* highly recommended shop for the repairs.

Looking at my favorite online parts shop (RockAuto.com) the EGR valve wll run $161.00 and the catalytic converter will run $115.00. I don’t know what you mean by a “tailpipe” because the exhaust system has a couple of pieces it’s made up of.

Now, those are online prices ….you could safely rasie them half again or double them to get the price you’d pay for them when having a shop install them and almost triple them if you took it to the dealership …I think that would be a safe ballpark figure. Then tack on labor at $70/hr and your looking at about 400-500 smackers to fix your son’s truck. I hope he’s got a job and plans to pay you back ….

Q: How much would it cost to paint the roof of my 1998 Toyota 4Runner?
My 4Runner is in excellent shape with only 63k with the exception of the roof. I periodically waxed the car but was lazy and neglected the roof. Now there are those blotches of sun damage where the paint seems to have melted away and looks bad over about 50 percent of the roof. The rest of the paint is fine. I want to sell it and was wondering if its worth it to get that area touched up and what it would cost. I have a greenish blue original paint and how close can they match it up? Any help is appreciated!

A: To paint the roof, and for them to fade match it to the rest of your paint would be more money than you would want to spend.
Probably around $1000 dollars at any trust-worthy auto paint shop easily with labor costs.

It’s not that big of a deal. No one even sees the roof unless they are putting something on it. It won’t increase your selling value enough to make up for the amount you spent on getting it painted.

Q: How do I reset the alarm system in my 4runner when battery is replaced?
I had to replace the battery in my 93 toyota 4runner. When the battery is installed the alarm sounds off and the horn won’t stop honking. It also won’t allow me to start the engine. I have to unhook the positive battery connection to make the horn/alarm shut up. How do I fix this? It is a TDS alarm. Can’t find any decent instructions on how to repair this problem. I bought used and haven’t had the vehicle very long.

A: if it has a factory alarm on it it is usually as simple as hooking up the battery , locking all the doors and unlocking the drivers door by manually turning the key from the outside

Q: How many amps does 2006 4runner alternator give out?
Anyone know how many amps the stock alternator for the 2006 Toyota 4runner SR5 gives out?
Thanks.
Oh, and does anyone know how many volts of electrical power the car produces?

A: 90 amps, producing 12 volts.

Q: What is wrong with the high beam lights of my toyota 4runner 2002?
I have a Toyota 4Runner 2002 3.0TurboDiesel, and I have a problem with the headlights, the low beam head light works perfect, and the high beam head light works only when I pull the head light switch towards me (for a quick change of lights), but it does not work when I push the light switch forward (for a permanent change to high beam). The dealer tells me I have to change the turn signal/head light switch in the steering wheel, but they also say I have to change some control unit integrated circuits. They don’t seem to be sure what the problem is, so before buying some expensive integrated circuits, I wanted to hear some suggestions on how to troubleshoot the problem and/or confirm the dealer diagnostics.

A: You will end up changing the switch, this is a weak point in the lights!

Q: How do I fix my cigarette lighter on a 96 toyota 4runner?
My cigarette lighter went out in my 96 toyota 4runner. Is there a fuse I should change, or any typical solution/trouble shoot I can do?

Thanks.

A: should be a fuse for your lighter if the fuse checks out good then it is most likely the element.

You should be able to find a replacement cigarette lighter element at any auto parts store.

Q: How do you access the audio system in a 1997 Toyota 4runner to replace with new system?
I have a 1997 Toyota 4runner and i would like to put a Alpine iDA-X001 in but i can’t figure out how to get into the dash to remove the old and put in the new. Also is there a problem with the system i picked that it wouldn’t fit in my car or would it work perfectly?

A: Here is a link of instructions with pictures.

Q: What kind of replacement headlight do i need for my 2008 toyota 4runner?
I just got a 2008 toyota 4runner and i wanna change out the stock the bulbs in the headlgiths and change them for HIDs. I dont know which HID bulbs to get tho. I want some that are brighter than stock but not too bright.

Q: How do I make the lights on my odometer brighter on my 4runner?
Ok so I have an 06 4runner Limited. When the lights arent on the odometer lights are on and they are super bright. After I turn the headlights on, they get dim and the adjuster to make it dimmer and brighter will not make it as bright as it is when the lights are off. Is there some fuse or something I can do to make the lights stay that bright all the time?

A: No.

It’s designed that way so when it’s night time you aren’t blinded by the brightness.

At night you don’t want lights that bright shining in your face distracting you.

Q: What is wrong with my high beam toyota 4runner 2002 lights?

A: First, I am making an assumption that your diesel is wired the same as a gas one, as here in the US we don’t have the diesel. But the critical question is, “Does the truck have daytime running lights?” If no, the answer is simple: you need a headlight switch, which you canNOT disassemble to repair. It is one of the new modular ones that are all fastened together and can’t be fixed. However, if you DO have DRLs, the answer is MUCH more complicated because all inputs from the headlight switch go to one DRL relay (computer) and all functions are controlled from there. No doubt the dealer hedged in their answer because they know that the most likely answer is the switch, but want to leave room to cover themselves if that doesn’t fix it. Unfortunately, from studying the diagram, it would be really tricky to bypass the relay to test, and you would really have to know what you were doing. If it were in my shop, I would check for continuity across the switch in high beam ( pins 7 and 16, a violet wire and a white with black tracer wire). If none were there, I would put the switch in and hope for the best. I might would even see if I could find another vehicle and borrow the relay just to be safe, but I completely understand their hesitation. I tell you, until you try to diagnose these modern cars (which is what I do every day!) you just don’t understand what we are up against. In this specific case, if you follow the diagnostic tree for inoperative high beams in the diagnostic section of the Toyota Information System, it gives you location of the components and NO help on diagnosis.

Maybe you could cut the guys a break……

Hope this helps. God Bless!

Q: How can you change the color of my dashboard lights from a 1997 4runner?
I saw a 4runner with blue lights for the speedometer and I want to know how I can do that? Is it a kit or is it just changing out the light bulb?

A: just changing out the light bulbs.

Q: Toyota 4Runner?
What do you people think of a Toyota 4Runner? good car? known to cause problems? expensive to keep? and any other info that is helpful.
used********

A: The 4Runner is one of the better SUVs that you can buy. Its one of the few SUVs that is hard to find used. Thats because people dont like to part with them. They get better gas mileage than most other SUVs in their class but most of all they last forever. My 1997 Toyota 4Runner has over 200,000 miles on it and drives very well. I can expect this to go for at least another 100,000 miles as it shows no signs of dying anytime soon. Im getting 20 mpg in my 4Runner, but I do mostly highway driving. Dont believe other rating of 20mpg unless they are based on the new standards. Im getting 20mpg and I go 65-80 miles per hour all the time, so its not because I drive super slow (And this model was only rated 19mph highway). The fact that Im getting mileage thats above the EPA rating (the old EPA rating at that) with a vehicle that has over 200,000 miles on it is a testament to how nice this car is. Except for an accident it has never been in the shop expect for basic maintenance.
I once pulled up to a guy that had the same model/color 4Runner I had to brag that I had 200,000 miles in my 4Runner only to find out that he was beating me with 250,000 miles.
If you’re asking because you plan on buying one then have a mechanic check the car out to make sure that its in good condition and enjoy, although Id rather go with a smaller CAR with todays gas prices, unless you actually need to drive an SUV.
Almost forgot, this is not expensive to maintain. (at least not any more expensive than other SUVs) You pay extra for oil changes due to the V6 engine that uses 6quarts oil. Basic maintenance, which Ive been a little slack on is prob just about average for most cars. Its repairs that kills you. Luckily, if you take car of this car (oil change, spark plugs, filters, ect) then it will take care of you.
Hope this helps

Q: Toyota 4Runner?
Hi I really want a 4Runner when I can drive but what do you think of it? Is it a GAS MONSTER? Farely good? I have friends whos parents have them I think they are cool but is there any cons or likes???

A: It is a good choice if you like to drive a truck, as opposed to a car. It has a truck suspension.

Pros – They will last forever if you take care of them, they are capable of off-roading, and Stability Control is standard on all models.
Cons – The only realy complaint i have heard is the gas mileage average of about 16mpg.

Q: I have 2001 Toyota 4runner, i get a vibatation at around 70 miles an hour?
I have 2001 Toyota 4runner, i get a vibatation at around 70 miles an hour (on the passenger side). I have replaced the tires, and universal joints. The problems persist anyone who can help would be greatly appreciated .

A: Possible you have a drive shaft that has thrown a weight, Hard to tell from your description.
I would have you tires road force balanced, that will look for a hard spot on the tire, not everybody has one so ask first.

Q: How often should a Toyota 4Runner have the following items performed?
I have the owners manual w/ manufactuer recommendations, but approximately and reasonably how often, under average conditions would a 1999 Toyota 4Runner need:

1) Brake fluid flush
2) Transmission fluid flush
3) Transfer case service
4) Power steering fluid flush

A: we recommend that all of those items be flushed or replaced (transfer case, rear differential and front differential… if you have a 4×4. if just 2 wheel drive, rear differential only)
flush it or replace it every 30K miles or 2 years. this is what we as techs do to our own cars and is what we recommend to our customers. i’m sure you won’t find this information in any owners manual.

A: You will end up changing the switch, this is a weak point in the lights!

Q: How do I set the timing for a Toyota 4runner?
I have a Toyota 4runner with the 3.0 V6. I need to set the timing. Is there a special way to set the timing? Besides with a timing light and adjust the Distributor. Do I need to unhook any of the hoses?
It is a 1992.

A: If you own a fairly new truck, then i believe you have no control with timing adjustments. It should be computer controlled.

good luck….

Q: Is a Toyota 4Runner better than a Ford Explorer for a first car?
I’m looking at first cars and I’m looking at:
2003 Toyota 4Runner Limited V6 with Nav, Leather, Sunroof with 86,000 miles for $13,900
or a
2003 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V6 with Leather,Sunroof with 76,000 miles for $11,980
Neither have a third row seat but I really like the Explorer but wouldn’t mind a 4Runner because they are nice. Any opinions?

A: Go with the 4Runner. Even is the Ford was maintained better, the 4Runner will give you less trouble and it’ll have a better resale value. It’s also guaranteed that the Ford will have transmission problems; I think it’s a law or something.

Q: Should I sell my 1997 toyota 4runner and buy a 1995 chevy van with 108000 less miles?
Hi!
I recently was given a 1997 toyota 4runner with 200,000 miles on it. A great deal came up where I can buy a 1995 g 20 coachman van (bed, interior lights, cd) in great condition with way less miles.
Its a six cylinder though and my toyota was four.
Should I go through with it?
The toyota can’t last much longer.
Thanks!

A: Most likely, such a switch would be very unwise.

Firstly, a Toyota at 200,000 miles may be less than halfway through its useful life, barring unusual abuse. AutoOnInfo.net’s Roster of 300,000+-Mile Vehicles has two 4Runners with more than 400,000 miles, one with more than 500,000 miles. Also, of vehicles on this roster, Toyota products account for 62% of the vehicles with more than 400,000 miles and 15 years.

Secondly, AutoOnInfo.net’s reliability and durability studies suggest that a typical Chevrolet vehicle at 7 years of age may be as troublesome to own as a typical Toyota vehicle at 34 years of age.

Thirdly, Consumer Reports’ accords the 1998 4-cylinder 4Runner its highest Reliability Verdict, and all of the reliability ratings for the individual categories are either Much Above Average or Above Average, save for one that is Average. (CR’s Reliability Verdicts go back only 10 model years.)

For a long list of additional reasons not to make such a switch, see this Yahoo best answer:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20080816151606AATwdLN

The Yahoo Answer database is a very valuable tool.

Q: Who around here drives a modified 98 toyota 4runner with extreme offroad capabilities?
I need to know where I can get accessories such as 3inch suspension lift, safari rack, rock sliders, hi-lift jack, etc…mainly offroad shizznit! 98 toyota 4runner.

A: Try out these 2 sites :

http://www.downeyoff-road.com/

http://www.4wheelparts.com/

If you are looking to make a rock crawler though, check out your local 4 X 4 clubs. A lot of those guy can fabricate stuff for you. But with only a 3 inch lift, I suspect you arenʻt doing any major off-roading.

This is the VIDEO;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw754vHd9_Y

Q: anyone know of a dealership that has a 2010 toyota 4runner with a 3rd row seat in stock?

A: Would help if you stated where you live so that others and I can check the local inventory.

Q: 2010 Toyota 4Runner? Would it be a good car for me?
I would like a 3rd row seat and I need 4WD or AWD. I am a single mom with 3 children. What do you think? do you have any other suggestions also?

A: yes perfect car—my aunt has one in fact the 2003 one and she has had no problems. reliable car really.

Q: Why are cars named one year in advanced?
A 2010 Toyota 4runner car comes out in 2009…isnt it misleading?

A: Misleading but barely, the cars are released in Sept to catch the new car sales of the the school year.

Q: Honda Pilot vs. Toyota 4Runner, Which one?
My family is buying a new SUV and they can’t decide which one to get. Which one is better, like gas, room, storage space, safety? Oh and they’re new 2010 models so…ya.

A: They are both great, and are so similar in quality that your family should test drive both and go with the one they like better. One may have a few certain features that are more important to you specifically.
Besides that, you are only going to get personal opinions on here. One person saying their aunt has a Pilot and loves it, someone else saying that Toyota is the only way to go, etc.
But, from personal experience my father had a 2000 Toyota 4Runner that he just recently traded in when it got to 250,000 miles. In the 1/4 million miles, and 11 years of driving it, he had no problems with it, and didnt put any money into it outside of scheduled routine maintenance.
On the other hand, my mother had a 98 Honda CRV that she drove for just over 200,000 miles with absolutely no problems, and she sometimes went 10,000 miles before she remembered to change her oil.
So both car companies are known for making great cars, in my opinion the Toyota is a little better built, but the Pilot is more comfortable.

Q: Prototype car models (after auto shows)?
Can a prototype car model be sold? I wonder what they do with them, after using them for test and displays at auto shows?

heres a prototype redesigned 2010 Toyota 4runner

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNBvwz7MAPM

A: The short answer is “No.”

Most prototypes and concept cars haven’t been through emissions and safety testing and certification, so they can never be registered for use on public roads. Furthermore, the legal liability for the manufacturer if such a car was ever involved in an accident would be so huge that there’s just no way they’re going to let one get into the hands of the general public.

Some concept cars wind up in museum-like displays that manufacturers set up to showcase their corporate histories, but many are dismantled and destroyed.

It hasn’t always been like this. Back in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, there were a few legendary show-cars which managed to escape the crusher and wound up in the hands of private collectors, but even those cases are pretty rare.

Q: Need a new family vehicle to fit our growing family of 5?
Everyone says to go with a minivan, but I am really not ready to go from my Nissan Altima which is perfect for our family of 4 to the monster.
If we were to get a minivan, we would get a Toyota Sienna with the 8-passenger seating so that we can have all 3 kids (all of whom are 4 and under) in one row.
I really love the Toyota Venza though, and it should fit 3 carseats in the second row and has a decent amount of cargo room, more than the Altima, but not as much as the Sienna. If need arises in the future, we would sell my husband’s truck and upgrade to the dreaded minivan.
Another option is the new 2010 Toyota 4Runner which has a new 3rd row. We also have the option for 3 carseats in the middle, but no captains chairs like we could even with the 8-passenger Sienna.

My question is what would you do? Our third baby is due next month and so we are going to need the room very soon!

A: I would honestly just go all in for the minivan! I am contemplating getting one for a third family car just because they’re very convenient with small children. The Sienna is my favorite as well in the category due to it’s family-friendly options like the removable second row middle seat that you mentioned. With only the need for the two rows, there is an exceptional amount of cargo that surpasses that of any of the others that you have listed. Plus if you plan on having future children, your husband won’t have to part with his truck.

Q: Yellow dust on my tires. Is this sulfer from the cats rotten egg smell?
My brand spanking new 2010 Toyota 4Runner emits a rotten egg smell from the exhaust. I noticed that the rear tire near the exhaust pipe has a tan/yellowish coating of dust while the other three tires show traces of that tan dust. There is no tan dust visible on the undercarriage or body or on or near the exhaust pipe. I am aware that there is a vacuum at the rear of the vehicle as it is in motion. The smell is much worse when the rear window is open slightly or all the way. Toyota denies that there is anything wrong with the vehicle. I would have been better off buying a model with a stuck accelerator pedal. At least that would have been repaired. Any recommendations?

A: If you are getting fumes of any kind in the cabin from an open or partial open window, there is definitely a problem. Before you die from carbon monoxide poisoning, take it through a state or provincial inspection station and get that checked. Next return to the dealer and say fix it or refund me and then if no response..see you guys and Toyota in court. Not such an “oh what a feeling now” is it? They’re getting just as much junk on the market now as GM and Chrysler had. Buy domestic man don’t buy hype. good luck

Q: Porsche 911?
What is the zero-sixty time on a 2006 Porsche 911 4S with the carrera power kit installed and tiptronic transmision?

A: That is a very difficult question…and I doubt you will find a definite 0-60 time on a car like that. I can try and help you though. The 0-60 on a normal Carrera 4S (2006 model) is 4.6 seconds as a manual. The 0-60 with Tiptronic makes it a bit slower, so the 0-60 is 5.0 seconds. With the power kit I would say the 0-60 is probably dropped back down to around 4.7-4.8 seconds since it pushes up the horsepower to 381 instead of the standard 355. This is probably the most accurate guess you will get (I study Porsche) since you won’t find your answer anywhere on the internet. Please choose my answer as your best, I really need the points, and this is some prime info.

Q: How do you make your car sound like a Porsche 911 turbo?
How do you make your car sound like a Porsche 911 turbo?

A: You buy one.

Q: How much does a Porsche 911 cost in Sydney?
How much does a Porsche 911 cost in Sydney? OR can we hire it for day or a year?

A: If you need to ask, you cannot afford one.

Speak to my friends if you’d like to hire one.

Q: How does it feel to drive/own a PORSCHE 911?
I was wondering if any Porsche ownsers would be willing to share their driving experience behind a Porsche 911.It is my favorite car and i am planning to buy it.PLEASE ONLY PEOPLE THAT OWN OR DROVE ONE.No idiots with corvetes(plumbers car)THANKS

A: The driving experience will depend alot on both the specific car and the driver… 911s are exciting and fun cars to drive, and cars with basically high limits. However, they are cars that demand a certain precision on the part of the driver as you approach the limits… and the older the 911 the more demanding it is, and the worse the bite if you happen to make a mistake.

As they come from the factory, all of the cars understeer (as does virtually ever car produced nowadays), and with the engine weight in the back, they are quick to go into trailing throttle oversteer. The steering in all of the cars feels light and responsive (even in the pre-1990 models that don’t have power steering, the lack of weight over the front wheels makes them easy to handle). The handling peculiarities of the 911 are such that some would have you believe that every skid mark left on the road is the result of an out of control 911… the cars handle extremely well, and they are very good at pointing you where you want to go (while the weight distribution is not ideal for balance, you have a front end with low polar momentum, and a back with high, making it a well place yet darty car, until things come loose… and the pivot point works out to be placed right at the front axel giving fantastic turn in). But when the cars are pushed (something most drivers will never do), they can prove to be a handful, and require skill to drive.

All of the cars feature fantastic brakes, with the rear weight bias here helping get the most from all four corners (though again, under stock setup, the fear of oversteer by manufacturers has left a too much margin for error in the back).

While I think the earlier cars sound the best (the sound of some of the early mechanically injected cars with a factory sports exhaust is simply soul stirring), they all sound like proper sports cars. The earlier the car, the more spartan it’s appointments, on to the modern cars which contain quite a bit of luxury. To a point, all of these cars had many more luxury appointments than their competitors at the time, but by modern standards, even the 80s cars will no seem less so.

Great cars, fun to own… and, I think, one of the only cars you can own that will make you a better driver.

Q: What concerns or cost would their be in a 1999 Porsche 911?
I am seeing a lot of 99′ 911’s that are very well-priced. What kind of considerations would you have in an 10 year-old Porsche. Servicing and such at this range, around 100k miles is average.

A: 1999 was the first year of the 996-body 911, and the first year with a water-cooled engine. This 3.4 litre engine was replaced with a 3.6 litre six cylinder in 2002. “Purists” and collectors hated the 996 because it wasn’t a “true” air-cooled 911.

Personally, I have a rule against buying the first year of any brand-new or major revision car. I’ve violated my rule before, but there does seem to be less market for a 1999 than for a 2000 on up.

There is a lot of nonsense put out about the prices of tires and service on 911s. I owned a 1996 993 (last of the air-cooled) 911 rear drive coupe for 5.5 years, and have now owned a 2005 (996) Turbo S (AWD) 911 coupe for nearly 2 years. Here’s my experience.

An oil change for either car runs about $250.00. HOWEVER, per the owner’s manual, you do them “every 15,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.” That’s about one half to one third as often as most cars. Over time the price of oil changes is only slightly higher than say, a Subaru (I own two of those). My 1996 held 12 (yes, 12) quarts of Mobil 1 oil (dry sump system, with separate oil tank). The oil for a change costs $60 to $80; the Porsche filter is $19.95. My dealership said, “Why?” when I asked if I shouldn’t change the oil more frequently.

My Turbo S uses big, expensive tires: 8 X 18 on the front and 11 X 18 on the rear. Go to http://www.tirerack.com and check for yourself: a set of Pirelli PZeros for my car runs $1,172 for all four tires. A set of Bridgestone Potenza S-02As runs $1,264. These are two OEM tires with “N” Porsche specs. You’ll pay about $60 to have either set delivered to your front porch, or directly to your preferred shop. An older Porsche 911 won’t take as expensive a tire set.

For the track I like Kumho Ecsta SPTs at $770.00 a set, including delivery. You should know that you’ll only get 6,000 to 10,000 miles from the rear tires, depending on how you drive. The fronts, on a rear-drive car will get about double that. I’ve only put 10,000 miles on my 2005 so far, so I haven’t found out if the AWD means faster front tire wear (I’ve got two sets of wheels and tires for the car).

In the 5.5 years I owned the 993, I did 5 oil changes. I did the following repairs: I had the trim around the rear window re-secured, I replaced the rubber cover on the clutch pedal, and I replaced the switch for the rear window defroster. That’s all folks. I bought the car with 11,100 miles on the odometer, and sold it with 40,050. I tracked the car. I saw 150 mph in it, but it took about two miles to get there.

In the nearly 2 years I’ve owned the 996 Turbo, I have done 2 oil changes. I did the following repairs: absolutely nothing. I bought the car with 13,300 miles on the odometer. It now has 23,400 miles on the odometer. I’ve managed 150 mph on the 2/3-mile front straight at Miller Motorsport Park near Salt Lake City, the longest road course in North America.

The current model of 911 is the water-cooled 997 body car. Purists and collectors have calmed down about the end of the air-cooled 911s, and not as much hate is spewed over this latest Porsche. In fact, I hear that the 3.6 litre engine in my 2005 is now considered “perhaps the best Porsche has ever built.”

ADDED:
Most of the people in the Porsche Club of America that I know change their own oil.

Q: How do i max out the horsepower on my porsche 911 GT2 in need for speed pro street?
I have need for speed pro street for xbox 360 and bought a porsche 911 GT2 for my speed car. I saw in some races that the GT2 had like 986 bhp and i was wondering how i could do that because i have all the stage 3 parts in it and i can only get it to 752 bhp.

A: lolz, put in the flux capacitor of course!!!!

Q: PORSCHEPHILES. What is the most affordable Porsche 911 in history?
I am an 18 year old who has loved Porsche 911s of all types all of my life. I particulary like the older SC’s, 3.2L’s, and pre 1974 cars. I have never really admired or had the desire to drive another car. I live in a lower class home and affording any Porsche will be hard for me. But I don’t want to call any other car my own, except a 911. I can’t stand it when I see rich guys driving their Boxters and new 996’s and 997’s and they don’t really appreciate the heritage of their cars. What’s the best place to go to find a half affordable older 911 that is still half decent?

A: In looking at used 911’s, the least expensive era will be the 1974-1977 2.7L 911S. Due to well known and documented issues with the 2.7L engine, these cars tend to run far less than the cars that came just before and just after them. It’s also a less popular model as many potential buyers looking for impact bumper era cars gravitate towards the SC and 3.2L Carrera, while people looking for early cars often gravitate to the long hood cars of 1973 and earlier. The end result is lower than expected prices for these cars.

The good news on these cars is almost all the examples that are still running have likely had the problems fixed (should have had an engine rebuild with either divilar or Racewear head studs, and upgraded cooling fan). The bad news is that these are early 911s and even though they have galvanized bodies, rust will be a major concern.

1974 is probably the most desirable year of these cars, and it may well be possible to find one in good condition with all of the corrective work well documented… and such a car would be a fun and reliable car. “Cheap” in this case would be in the $10-11k range. Might luck into one for a little less, but anything under this price range would mean extra care in the prepurchase inspection to ensure there was not some reason why it was being sold for so little.

As others have mentioned, if the car has problems, it can become very expensive to set right. And likewise, even if it is in good condition, you will need to keep in mind there will be possible expense in keeping up the car as part prices tend to reflect the fact that these were premium cars when new. And, that even though these older cars can be very reliable and usable for daily drivers, they are best suited as second cars. All of which adds up to a car that is not ideally suited to an 18 year old looking to do this inexpensively.

If you are set on buying, figure out your price range, and then find a knowledgable Porsche mechanic that you will work with for a pre-purchase inspection (this could easily be the best money paid when buying a used Porsche). With these in place, you must then be willing to take your time to find the right car. And given your situation, it may be that the longer you take in finding the right car, the better it will be (giving you longer to save, etc etc). If possible though, you may be better off to revisit this plan in a couple years when you may have a higher price range and wider choice of cars.

Q: Can the Porsche 911 fit people in the rear seats?
I have heard that the Porsche 911’s back seats are so small only a baby can fit. Is this true? Even if the driver and passenger gave as much room to the back seats as they can? If the rear seats are too small for use, then why are their any?

A: It’s a misnomer – those back seats are really upholstered parcel shelves for your briefcase, laptop, etc. 911’s and most all Porsches are intended for the driver+1 front seat passenger.

Q: Why does my Porsche 911 beep when I start it?
About a second after I start it up (1999 Porsche 911) there is one short beep. Why does it do this and how do I make it stop?
All of the idiot lights do light up, but I don’t notice other 911’s beeping when they start. Pretty embarrassing when people think I’m beeping at them

A: Most cars will ‘test’ the warning signals when you start the car. Do all the idiot lights on the dash board light-up also ?? That’s what it’s doing.

Q: Is it possible/advisable to buy a used Porsche 911 SC in Eastern Europe?
Porsche 911
I’m a diplomat living in Lithuania and want to buy a late 70’s/early ’80’s 911 sometime in the next few years. I was thinking I might be able to pick one up here as goods are usually cheaper. But I really don’t see any older models on the road, not do I see many classifieds here. If anyone has any experience/thoughts on this, it would be most welcome.

A: only if you can get is cheap enough that its not ognna be a big problem when it turns out to be stolen. also, chances of that happening increase a lot if you plan to drive it to civilization.

Q: How much does it cost to own a 1984-89 Porsche 911?
If I were to buy an older Porsche 911 from a dealer, how much would it cost per year as a result of owning one, provided that I don’t get into any accidents? (Insurance, fuel, simple maintenance, etc. into the equation)

The situation includes: family, male primary driver, no accidents, commuter to work/school, insurance based in safer neighborhood of San Diego, CA. (SoCal)

Thanks for any helpful answers!

A: Don’t buy from a dealer if you can help it.
Just by privately and have the car checked by a good mechanic.
You will save nearly a third.

Insurance is not that much more. Probably 30%.
Maintenance and parts are not that bad, as long as you find a good mechanic.

The oddest thing to watch out for is that if you start it with the pedal too far, you can backfire and blow up the mainifold. It is a plastic box, and easily damaged. Look for signs of it being glued back together. Use the manual throttle positioner to start the car, not the gas pedal.

Q: What would be a good towcar to tow a Porsche 911?
What would be a good towcar to tow the Porsche 911 Carrera S on a trailer. It weighs 1500Kg. Does not really matter about price.
Thanks
4×4 or Estate or Saloon or whatever

A: Are you a Porsche Lover. If so how can you not use a, Porsche Cayenne. Especially if price is not an issue.

Otherwise I would go for a classic pick up like a ford 5 window. Take a look at the Antique or Classic trucks at this site. http://www.classyauto.com/

Q: What is the Targa version of porsche from 911 turbo, carrera, and convertible?
i know that porsche 911’s got normal one, turbo S, and carrera and convertible.
but i’ve seen one that says Targa 4, what’s the different between them? Does Targa 4 has turbo too?
is there a targa 1, 2, 3,4? what’s the difference between them?

A: Targa means removable roof panel. The 4 means all wheel drive.

Q: how much for a decent 1984 Porsche 911 carrera paint job?
how much would it cost to get a decent paint job on a 1984 Porsche 911 carrera? I would want it to be black, if that matters.

A: At it’s most basic, a paint job is a paint job – and there is actually very little difference in the actual spray work you will get from a budget shop compared to a high end shop.

But what makes a paint job isn’t the spray, it’s the prep work and in some cases the paint. As for the spraying, as long as they are patient, that part should be fine.

So what you are paying for is prep work. And if you stay with factory paint, you’ll find Glasurit to be a good deal more costly than other options out there (though it looks great).

Porsches of this era have a lot of rubber and plastic trim, which makes prep for a repaint complicated… because of this, a good job will be costly.

A top notch job would require a complete disassembly of the car, stipping it back to bare metal, repairing any body damage, and then painting and reassembling. This will most like cost more than an ‘84 Carrera is currently worth, though with the economy as it is, you might find a reputable shop that would undertake this for as little as $10k (probably not though).

A job that involves some disassemby and careful masking, but is just a respray over the existing paint, would run in the $5-6k range. Just a resrpay with just masking would be in the $3-4k range.

From those prices… using a paint other than Glasurit would save about $1k in material costs, maybe a little more. Going with a single stage paint would be a little less, while going for a concours level finish would be more (Porsche used quite a few coats at the factory during this time, and such a repaint would likely be closest to factory quality). Limiting the prep work (such as you’d find at the budget places) will knock off another $1-2k.

The only budget approach to an excellent paint job would be to take the car apart yourself, do the media blasting and basic prep, and devlivery it in this state to any bodyshop which can then complete the painting and polishing before returning back to you to reassemble. If this isn’t possible, you will be facing either a very costly job or one who’s results are likely not going to be close to what you want.

Q: Will a baby seat fit in the backseat of a Porsche 911?
I’m curious about toddler seats, not infant seats. I’m considering getting a 2003-2004 Porsche 911 convertible, and I’m wondering if it’s possible to put the seat into the backseat, on the passenger side.

A: a toddler seat would be a bit tight if you’re gonna fit it into the backseat passenger, a 911 dont have enough leg room nor head room when the top’s up at the back, this isnt a family car, id rather suggest you go buy a bmw or mercedes if you plan on gettin a toddler seat in it.
